What’s the difference between gas neon signs and LED neon signs?

Gas neon VS LED neon

We all love neon signs.  There’s something about the vibrant glow and unique shapes of neon signs that make them the perfect decorations to beautify your home or business.  Did you know there are actually two ways to make a custom neon sign?

Traditional gas neon signs are made from shaped glass tubes that are filled with neon gas and then illuminated by a high-voltage electrical current, while newer LED neon signs, such as those Neon Pegasus specializes in, are made from flexible neon tubes that are filled with perfectly spaced LEDs to emit vivid lights.

Why should you choose our custom LED neon signs over more old-fashioned options?  Let’s look at three factors that can help you decide:

Affordability

Using LED neon signs can result in significant cost-savings when compared to using gas neon signs.

Since our LED neon signs use lower voltage than gas neon signs, they are more energy efficient and result in lower electricity costs.  Furthermore, our signs are made from LED tubes that are mounted on an acrylic board, so they’re very easy to install on your walls.  Our signs also require almost no maintenance over their lifetime.

By contrast, gas neon signs often require professional installation by a certified electrician due to their higher voltage requirements and their heavier glass construction.  If they are used in a colder climate, then gas signs may also need periodic maintenance by specialized technicians, which will result in further costs.

Safety

Our custom LED neon signs are inherently safer than gas neon signs.

Our LED neon signs are less likely to shatter when compared to their glass-based counterparts due to our use of LEDs and rubber tubing.  The lower voltage requirements for our signs also mean they produce very little heat and are very comfortable to touch.  This makes our LED signs ideal for use in your home, especially if you have children.

Gas neon signs also contain potentially dangerous substances such as mercury.  This means that there is always the risk of chemical contamination due to breakages or improper handling and disposal of the signs.  Our LED neon signs do not contain these hazardous materials and therefore they are much safer to handle.

Versatility

Our LED neon signs have a distinct advantage over gas neon signs when it comes to versatility and customization.

The flexible tubes used in our bespoke neon signs can be twisted into a myriad of shapes, allowing our craftsmen to accommodate almost any custom design.  The glass tubes used in gas neon signs are harder to manipulate and are therefore more limited in the kinds of shapes they can create.

Our neon signs also sync with remote controllers, allowing you to adjust the brightness of our signs and create various strobing effects.  Gas neon signs, on the other hand, can only emit light at a fixed intensity and it’s impossible to create any custom lighting effects.

Which one should you choose?

It’s clear that our custom LED neon signs are more cost-effective, safer, easier to handle, and more versatile than traditional gas neon signs.

So whether you’re looking for business signs or just something cool to add to your home décor, we’re confident that we can meet all of your needs!
